Businesses to President Obama: Protect pollinators from bee-toxic pesticide

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, more than 100 businesses including Clif Bar, Nature’s Path, Organic Valley and Stonyfield Farm instó the Obama administration to immediately suspend neonicotinoid pesticides in order to protect the nation’s food supply, environment and economy. Members of the American Sustainable Business Council and Green America’s Green Business Network voiced deep concern over the Environmental Protection Agency’s continued delays in restricting these pesticides, which have been linked to global bee declines.

Lisa Archer, Food and technology program director at Friends of the Earth, issued the following statement:

The science is clear that neonicotinoids are a central factor in worldwide bee declines, and now the business case for restricting these pesticides to protect essential pollinators is becoming increasingly urgent. Today’s letter from businesses to the Obama administration sends a strong message that bees, our food system and our economy can’t afford any further delays in restricting bee-toxic pesticides.
