El enviado especial para el clima, Sterns, se jacta de que la financiación climática es un tema hueca.
PARIS, FRANCE – U.S. Special Envoy for Climate Change Todd Stern spoke today about the U.S. role in climate negotiations, including climate finance.
Friends of the Earth U.S. President Erich Pica issued the following response:
Special Climate Envoy Stern called the U.S. pledge ‘strong and robust.’ But it is not. Not only is the U.S.’ contribution to the $100 billion less than its fair share, the U.S. is resisting any needs-based binding finance target post-2020. This is a shameful position for the country that is not only the world’s wealthiest, but also the most responsible for causing the climate crisis.
For people in developing countries, especially the poorest and most vulnerable, the provision of climate finance isn’t a game of high stakes political negotiation but an essential down-payment for survival and life with dignity. The U.S. government must recognize this, change course and commit funds commensurate with what science and justice demand.
