Climate change: The planet will not be grading Trump on a curve

WASHINGTON, D.C.– On Tuesday Donald Trump met with reporters and editors from the New York Times. In the interview, Trump said that he is looking at climate change “very closely” with an “open mind.” He also said that he is “going to take a look at” pulling the United States out of the international climate agreement that was reached last year in Paris. This is a departure from Trump’s earlier statements on climate change saying that he would “cancel the Paris climate agreement.” He also tweeted that “the concept of global warming was created by and for the Chinese in order to make U.S. manufacturing non-competitive.”

In response to Trump’s interview Friends of the Earth’s Climate and Energy Program Director Ben Schreiber issued the following statement:

Donald Trump’s words mean nothing when he has chosen a climate denier to lead his transition team for the EPA. It is outrageous that Trump is playing footsie with climate denial. Pretending that the science on climate change is unsettled is a page right out of the oil industry playbook.

The American people want their leader to have a robust plan for addressing the pending climate catastrophe. Trump’s administration is going to be met with fierce resistance in the streets until he develops one.
