Active Energy sells proposed woody biomass facility
NORTH CAROLINA – In a win for North Carolinians and the climate, Active Energy has agreed to sell its proposed woody biomass facility slated for Lumberton, North Carolina.
Donna Chavis, senior climate campaigner with Friends of the Earth, issued the following statement in response:
We are relieved and encouraged by the news that Active Energy is ending its efforts to build a woody biomass facility in Lumberton, North Carolina. Burning wood pellets will not help solve climate change and only exacerbates the crises we face.
While this is an enormous victory for the local communities that would have been most impacted by the increased water and air pollution, we take no pleasure in the company’s plans to move its proposed enterprise to Maine. We will continue to support communities as they fight against polluters and push back against false climate “solutions” that harm people and the planet.
