Friends of the Earth Responds to Sen. Manchin Statement on Inflation Reduction Act

WASHINGTON – Senator Manchin released a declaración this afternoon announcing his support for the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022. The statement includes a commitment to “all of the above” energy and the promise of permitting reform legislation to be considered by Congress in the fall. 

Erich Pica, President of Friends of the Earth, issued the following statement in response:

Political pressure has finally brought Senator Manchin back to the table on climate. Now political pressure needs to safeguard our bedrock environmental laws. Protections for communities on the frontlines of fossil fuel pollution should always take precedence over the expanding wish list of a corporate-backed coal baron. We are counting on Democratic leadership to stand firm against an unjust and doomed “all of the above” energy strategy.
