Trump’s executive order on coal will make Americans sicker

WASHINGTON – The latest energy directives from the Trump administration seek to subsidize coal in an effort to bring back an obsolete, centuries-old fossil fuel. The Executive Order, “Reinvigorating America’s Beautiful Clean Coal Industry and Amending Executive Order 14241,” designates cancer-causing coal as a critical mineral and requires the U.S. Export-Import Bank and U.S. International Development Finance Corporation to rescind progress the US Government has made towards supporting clean, affordable renewable energy.

Kate DeAngelis, Deputy Director for Economic Policy at Friends of the Earth, said this:

Trump is ordering EXIM Bank and DFC to subsidize the dying coal industry while pretending to be concerned with federal spending.  This scheme would push the US back into the last century with more Americans dying from the cardio-vascular and respiratory diseases that coal brings. So much for Making America Healthy Again.
