Statement from Friends of the Earth U.S.

WASHINGTON — Se espera que el administrador de la EPA, Lee Zeldin, anuncie hoy la derogación de los límites de contaminación por gases de efecto invernadero para las centrales eléctricas de carbón y gas. 

En respuesta, Karen Orenstein, Director of the Climate, Energy and Oceans Program at Friends of the Earth U.S., issued this statement: 

“August set a planetary heat record and thousands of people are still missing or dead due to the glacier melt-triggered flooding in Nepal and Tibet, but the Trump Administration thinks today is a good day to announce the elimination of limits on power plant climate pollution. Friends of the Earth U.S. condemns this move as anti-science, inhumane, immoral, and dangerous. 

EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin is choosing to accelerate the climate crisis, contrary to the EPA’s duty to protect public health and the environment. It is a decision with severe impacts globally, leading to the loss of lives and livelihoods around the world. This announcement will only double our motivation to fight even harder for climate justice.”
