Stop Manchin's Dirty Deal: Protect Our Environmental Laws!
Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Democratic Leadership are forcing Congress to vote on a bill this year that would make it easier to build new mines and dirty fossil fuel projects like pipelines. This legislation would harm frontline communities and worsen the climate crisis.
1. Attacks our bedrock environmental laws like the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). 2. Requires building the Mountain Valley gas pipeline despite tremendous local opposition.
Manchin always prioritizes polluting industries over people, and this dirty deal is no exception.
We must stop Manchin’s dirty deal and protect our environmental laws!
With your help, we successfully kept the dirty deal off the September government funding bill. But Manchin’s back-up plan is to add his pro-fossil fuel language to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).
By attaching the dirty deal to must-pass legislation, Manchin and Democratic Leadership are making this vote unfairly difficult for members of Congress who want to do the right thing and stand up for environmental justice.
The best path forward is to demand that the dirty deal get a separate vote from any must-pass legislation. Then we can defeat Manchin’s giveaway to the fossil fuel and mining industries, and defend our environmental laws!
