Auto companies announce commitment to reduce global warming–but they’re suing California to block efficiency rules and opposing new federal fuel economy standards
WASHINGTON–Chrysler and Ford announced today that they are joining the U.S. Climate Action Partnership because they are serious about addressing global warming. Friends of the Earth President Brent Blackwelder responded with the following statement:
“The position of these auto companies is hypocritical. If Ford and Chrysler were really serious about addressing global warming, they’d drop their legal challenge to California’s automobile global warming law and stop opposing congressional efforts to increase federal fuel economy standards. They’re saying one thing but doing another. They purport to support progress but are blocking real efforts at change. These companies are currently part of the global warming problem, and they shouldn?t try to make it look like they’re part of the solution.”
