Rep. Bishop asks Supreme Court to build Atlantic Coast Pipeline

Durham, N.C. – U.S. Representative Dan Bishop (R-N.C.) joined with 61 other members of Congress yesterday to file an amicus brief urging the U.S. Supreme Court to move forward with the construction of the Atlantic Coast Pipeline. The brief is Rep. Bishop’s first public declaration on the Atlantic Coast Pipeline.

In response to the filing, Donna Chavis, senior fossil fuels campaigner at Friends of the Earth, issued the following statement:

By backing the proposed Atlantic Coast Pipeline, Rep. Bishop is endorsing the environmental injustice and climate damage that this pipeline will bring to North Carolina. In signing his name to this brief, Rep. Bishop is wildly out of step with his constituents.

The construction of the Atlantic Coast Pipeline is widely opposed across his district and the entire state. It is bewildering to think that a member of Congress from North Carolina could take a stance that is so inconsistent with public opinion.
