Senate rejects amendment to phase-out fossil fuel subsidies
WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Senate rejected an amendment to phase-out some of the largest fossil fuel tax incentives on the books by a vote of 45-50. Sponsored by Senator Schatz (D-Hi.), the measure was considered as part of a broader energy package.
Friends of the Earth Climate and Energy Campaigner Lukas Ross issued the following statement in response:
Once again, Big Oil has defended its billions in subsidies at the expense of taxpayers, clean air, and a livable climate.
Shoveling billions of our tax dollars into the troughs of ExxonMobil and Koch Industries is an act of climate denial. The sooner polluters and their champions in Congress receive this message the better.
