Nnimmo Bassey, a leading environmental activist in Nigeria and chair of Friends of the Earth International, was interviewed on Democracy Now!, which is broadcasting live from Copenhagen. BREAKING: Friends of the Earth responds to reports that the world’s biggest polluters have produced a secret alternative to the draft text currently under negotiation at the UN climate summit in Copenhagen.

The U.S. must start cooperating with the whole world to solve the problem — and stop wheeling and dealing in back-room talks that unjustly marginalize the countries most vulnerable to climate chaos.

Today, tensions are coming to a head over the secret meetings that Danish leaders and representatives from the U.S. and some European Union countries have been holding.
