Friends of the Earth statement on State Department cover-up of Keystone review

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Yesterday morning, Mother Jones magazine released an exclusive story which details the State Department’s role in covering up the relationship between TransCanada and the company hired to do the supplemental environmental impact statement on the Keystone pipeline. In reaction, Ross Hammond, senior campaigner at Friends of the Earth, released the following statement:

“These latest revelations show that the State Department review process of the Keystone pipeline has been hopelessly compromised by TransCanada. It’s become increasingly clear that Secretary Kerry has inherited a flawed review process in which TransCanada continues to call the shots on the Keystone review, despite previous assurances that the State Department would tighten up its contracting procedures for the Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement following the Cardno Entrix scandal. We call on Secretary Kerry to put this flawed  report where it belongs — in the trash — and direct his staff to produce a new report that is not paid for and written by TransCanada.”
