Friends of the Earth statement in support of XL Dissent demonstration against Keystone XL pipeline
Students from across the country will march on the White House this weekend to protest the Keystone XL pipeline. The XL Dissent mass demonstration will bring youth activists together “to tell President Obama to reject the northern leg of Keystone XL and protect us from a future defined by climate chaos.”
Erich Pica, President of Friends of the Earth, released the following statement:
“During his 2014 State of the Union speech, President Obama laid out a mission, that ‘when our children’s children look us in the eye and ask if we did all we could to leave them a safer, more stable world, with new sources of energy, I want us to be able to say yes, we did.’ Well the young people of XL Dissent are looking at the President now, and demanding an answer on the Keystone XL pipeline.
“The president’s climate legacy depends on the choices he makes now. We at Friends of the Earth ask the President to follow the example of our young people by standing up to Big Oil and realizing that vision of a clean energy future by rejecting the Keystone XL pipeline.”
