Rep. Pocan introduces bill to ban new fracking on public lands
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Mark Pocan (D-Wisc.) introduced H.R.5844, the Protect Our Public Lands Act; which, if successful would forbid any new, renewed or readjusted federal leaseholders from conducting fracking.
Friends of the Earth Climate and energy campaigner Kate DeAngelis offers the following statement in response:
Our public lands are pristine, sacred places that must be protected from the destructive process of fracking. Rep. Pocan’s bill would be a step forward in preserving our unique wilderness spaces from fossil fuel extraction. Let’s hope this bill spurs additional protections that ensure all fossil fuels are left in the ground.
