Congress dances for the applause of Canadian oil company

WASHINGTON, D.C. — By a vote of 270-152, the House passed the Senate’s Keystone XL bill, sending it to President Obama’s desk. The White House has repeatedly affirmed the president’s intent to veto any legislation that aims to circumvent the National Interest Determination review process.

Friends of the Earth’s Climate and Energy associate Luísa Abbott Galvão issued the following statement:

Today we witnessed act three in the Keystone XL legislative drama. While Republican leadership plays the jester to delight their oil industry patrons, Americans continue to wonder when elected lawmakers will begin working for them. The oil industry may enjoy the show but the American people would prefer to keep their theatrics on the stage and out of the halls of Congress.
