Ryan tax plan a coup for corporations, the super-rich

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) unveiled a broad plan for tax reform this morning. The blueprint includes a call for slashing the tax on capital gains, repealing the estate tax, lowering corporate and individual rates, and implementing a territorial tax system.  

Friends of the Earth Climate and Energy Campaigner Lukas Ross issued the following statement in response:

This is Speaker Ryan’s latest love letter to corporations and the super-rich. Like his infamous budget proposals in years past, it is a radical agenda to shift the burden of funding basic government services from the wealthy and powerful onto everyone else.

Ryan’s plan will only worsen the inequity of a tax system that already benefits the polluters driving the climate crisis. His plan is a pathway to a bankrupt government and environmental destruction.
