EPA’s Retreat from Slaughterhouse Pollution Rule Exposes “Make America Healthy Again” Hypocrisy
WASHINGTON — Today, the Environmental Protection Agency formally withdrew its proposal to reduce water pollution from slaughterhouses and meat processing plants. These facilities are leading sources of nitrogen and phosphorus pollution in U.S. waterways.
In response, Molly Armus, Animal Agriculture Policy Program Manager at Friends of the Earth, issued the following statement:
EPA’s decision to walk away from updating slaughterhouse pollution standards is a direct contradiction to Make America Healthy Again. For decades, slaughterhouses have dumped toxic waste into our rivers, leaving rural communities to pick up the tab. By allowing this pollution to continue unchecked, Trump is once again putting industry profits over clean water and public health.
