FOE President Erich Pica’s Statement on Michael Brune’s Departure from the Sierra Club
WASHINGTON – The Sierra Club announced on Friday that Executive Director Michael Brune will be stepping down from his position later this year. This comes after Brune spent 11 years leading the nation’s largest grassroots environmental organization.
Erich Pica, President of Friends of the Earth U.S., issued the following statement in response:
Mike is a friend and kindred spirit who I deeply appreciate for his willingness to question and challenge power structures. As Executive Director of the Sierra Club, he helped further our movement’s institutional and collective commitment to prioritizing racial and environmental justice. Mike has been a successful and consequential leader for the Sierra Club and I look forward to collaborating with both Mike and the new leadership of the Sierra Club in the future.
