Friends of the Earth Stands in Solidarity Against Roe Reversal

Washington, DC – The Supreme Court opinion leaked to POLITICO yesterday revealed the Court is poised to overturn Roe v. Wade – a landmark decision that established the Constitutional right to abortion almost 50 years ago.

Erich Pica, President of Friends of the Earth, issued this statement:

Should this opinion be issued, it will be the Roberts Court’s Plessy v. Ferguson. Americans will forever remember that these justices ruled on the wrong side of history, and their names will be synonymous with support for hatred and attacks on basic human rights. 

The only thing that is “egregiously wrong” is overturning Roe, and abolishing a reproductive right guaranteed to the American people for almost half a century. 

We call on Congress to end the filibuster and immediately pass legislation that codifies Roe v. Wade – to guarantee the right to an abortion no matter where you live in this country. We also call on Friends of the Earth’s members and supporters to join in nation-wide demonstrations defending a person’s right to choose.
