Friends of the Earth Statement on JP Morgan Annual letter
WASHINGTON- Friends of the Earth released documents obtained under the Freedom of Information Act today, revealing JP Morgan Chase’s efforts to lobby senior Trump Treasury officials to bailout the oil industry and its lenders, during the height of the coronavirus pandemic.
These documents are released just as CEO Jamie Dimon shared his annual letter to shareholders. The email exchange was covered first in Mother Jones.
Friends of the Earth Program Manager Lukas Ross issued the following response:
JP Morgan talks a good climate game in their public letter, but their private emails show how deeply the bank and its clients are entangled with the oil industry. Jamie Dimon’s climate platitudes in his annual letter are entirely betrayed by the blueprint emailed to Trump Treasury officials floating specific concepts for bailing out oil companies and their lenders. JP Morgan’s actions speak louder than their words, and those actions are destroying the climate.
