Media Advisory: Where’s Governor Cooper on North Carolina’s Forests?

Petition Delivery Contesting the Massive Clearcutting and Disproportionate Impact of Pollution in Communities of Color by the Wood Pellet Industry

North Carolina- On Wednesday May 26th, community leaders and organizations from rural North Carolina counties impacted by the wood pellet industry will hold a press conference, rally, and deliver a petition to Gov. Cooper contesting future grants, incentives, and permits for energy projects that are not a part of the Clean Energy Plan of the NCDEQ and Governor Cooper’s Executive Order 80, which supports NC’s transition to a clean energy economy.

This will be the first in a series of public education and action events focused on the growth of the dirty industry in rural Eastern NC, the poorest and most racially diverse region in the state.

The March 26th event times and locations are as follows:

Press Conference: – Press Room – NC Legislative Building
Where’s Gov. Cooper? Rally: 1:30 PM – Front of the NC Legislative Building
Petition Delivery: 2:15 – 3:00 PM – Offices of the Governor, Department of Environmental Quality, Attorney General, and Commerce Department
