Sam Clovis USDA Nomination Withdrawn

Friends of the Earth Declares Victory

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Associated Press is reporting that Trump national campaign co-chair Sam Clovis’ nomination to be the next chief scientist of the U.S. Department of Agriculture has been withdrawn.

Lisa Archer, Friends of the Earth’s Director of Food and Technology, issued the following statement:

Sam Clovis’ withdrawal is a victory for people, science and the planet. Clovis is an unqualified and extreme anti-science talk show host with no credible background for this position. Hundreds of thousands of Americans spoke out to stop Clovis and Trump’s extreme agenda.

Sam Clovis should resign his current position at the USDA and should not be allowed to serve anywhere else in the Trump Administration. Trump is still trying to fill the USDA with anti-science extremists aiming to promote only corporate agriculture. When we stand up to Trump’s extreme agenda, we can stop dangerous nominees from destroying our future.
