Trump considers propping up failing uranium industry, disregards harm to frontline and indigenous communities

WASHINGTON – Recent reports reveal that the Trump Administration is considering using Cold-War era legislation to directly purchase uranium from U.S producers.

Nicole Ghio, Fossil Fuels Program Manager for Friends of the Earth, issued the following statement in response:

The Trump Administration is more concerned with propping up the failing uranium industry than protecting frontline and indigenous communities that have already been poisoned by decades of mining. The companies who stand to benefit are former clients of EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler and DOI Secretary David Bernhardt.

This is standard behavior from an administration that allows corporations to mine and destroy our environment to make money. Instead of working to support uranium profits, the Trump Administration should protect communities and safeguard our environment.
