Trump speech on environment, sponsored by fossil fuels

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Donald Trump today spoke on his administration’s environmental record from the White House.

In response to the speech, Nicole Ghio, Friends of the Earth’s Senior Fossil Fuels Program Manager, issued the following statement:

Trump’s corrupt environmental record is a gift to his corporate cronies in the coal, gas and nuclear industry. Trump’s pro-polluter policies will destroy our health and accelerate the climate crisis that is fueling fires and extreme weather events across the country.

Trump’s delusional speech was full of fraudulent claims, with attempts to take credit for the environmental and health benefits of the very rules and agencies he is working to dismantle. Despite his efforts, he cannot obscure that fact that he oversaw the largest reduction in protected public lands.

Trump’s policies hurt our children, our workers and our environment. Dollar for dollar, renewable energy creates more jobs than fossil fuels. Instead of investing in cutting edge renewable energy technology, Trump is doubling down on outdated fossil fuel infrastructure and pushing to export our pollution overseas. We demand real solutions like at Green New Deal that put workers and communities first, instead of corporate fossil fuel profits.
