DJ Rico Bernasconi releases two remixes of Love Song to the Earth

NEW YORK, NY, October 29, 2015—Love Song to the Earth, the all-star environmental anthem released last month to critical and audience acclaim, has received the remix treatment at the hands of internationally-renowned DJ and producer Rico Bernasconi. Bernasconi produced a 5:23 club mix of the song, and a 4:11 radio edit; both of which will fill dance floors and garner worldwide radio play in coming weeks. Both tracks will be available on iTunes, and all music download and streaming platforms October 30, with proceeds benefiting the climate change work of Friends of the Earth U.S. and the UN Foundation.
Love Song to the Earth is a hit single recorded and performed to support the UN Secretary-General’s leadership on climate change and the United Nations’ call for a meaningful, universal, global climate change agreement to be signed by governments this December.
Renowned German DJ, producer and label manager Rico Bernasconi has proved repeatedly through his career that he has his very own unique musical style. He started his career at age 15, in 1986 and released his first single, “Hypnotic Tango,” under the pseudonym “Rico Bass” as a member of the group Master Blaster. “Hypnotic Tango” made a big impact in the club scene, and garnered a highly coveted Echo nomination. After he started performing under his own name in 2008, he began collaborations with artists including Akon, Coolio, Ace of Base and Vaya con Dios, and has served as official remixer to artists including Black Eyed Peas, Snoop Dogg, Missy Elliott, Timbaland, Yves Larock and many others. His most recent remixes and collaborations include Sean Paul’s Ebony Eyes, Caliente (with Tom Pulse), and Girls (with Beenie Man and Akon).
Rico says, “From the moment Sean Paul first played the song for me, I felt its message and energy. At the first listen, I had a vision of how to work with the song in my studio.” What appeals to him most was “that the message about climate problem goes around the world, and that I could bring this spirit to the club community and to work with the amazing voices on the song. I am sure that the club and dance community—and the wider community—will understand this message; I am giving them the beats to help them.” He concludes, “I’m proud and thankful to be a small part of this incredible project and great song.” He plans to spread the release to DJ’s across Europe and on all his social media.
Written by Toby Gad, Natasha Bedingfield, John Shanks and Sean Paul — and produced by Toby Gad and John Shanks — Love Song to the Earth was originally released in early September. Since its release, the song earned approximately 325,000 aggregate downloads and streams, and well over 100 million media impressions. Its accompanying “lyric video” has racked up more than 250,000 views and downloads. The remix will act to push all these numbers higher in the name of environmental awareness and action. The lyric video will be re-synced to Rico’s remixes and released on November 13th.
The original song features performances by Paul McCartney, Jon Bon Jovi, Sheryl Crow, Fergie, Colbie Caillat, Natasha Bedingfield, Leona Lewis, Sean Paul, Johnny Rzeznik, Krewella, Angélique Kidjo, Kelsea Ballerini, Nicole Scherzinger, Christina Grimmie, Victoria Justice and Q’orianka Kilcher.
All the artists, producers and directors of the Love Song project—as well as Rico Bernasconi—are donating their respective proceeds to Friends of the Earth U.S. and the United Nations Foundation. The song was performed as a component of Pope Francis’ visit to Washington, D.C. in September, and a number of Love Song’s artists hosted a press conference following the performance at the National Press Club.
