Friends of the Earth Seeks Ethics Documents for Key Interior Trump Appointee

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Friends of the Earth today filed a Freedom of Information Act request with the U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI) for information on James Cason, Associate Deputy Secretary of DOI. Friends of the Earth is asking DOI to produce any ethics agreements, recusal agreements and ethics waivers, as well as a list of Cason’s former clients from his time working for Kelly, Anderson & Associates, Inc.

Cason held senior-level positions at multiple government consulting firms, including Booz Allen Hamilton and Kelly, Anderson & Associates, Inc., where he was the Principal of Energy and Alternative Energy. Cason has held positions at DOI under the last four Republican administrations.

“Few people have cycled through Washington’s revolving door as many times as Jim Cason has over the last four decades, and we want to ensure that he is working in the public interest, not for corporate polluters,” said Ben Schreiber, senior political strategist at Friends of the Earth. “The public needs to know what clients he represented and what issues he worked on before he re-entered public service.”

Mr. Cason is leading a number of initiatives at DOI including: reviewing grants over $100,000; reviewing national monuments; re-organizing the department by moving around career staff; and leading the DOI Regulatory Reform Task Force.
