Friends of the Earth Applauds Booker’s Farm Bill Amendment, Denounces Senate Agriculture Republicans

The amendment would have restored Americans’ right to sue pesticide manufacturers, but Republicans on the Senate Agriculture Committee on Thursday refused to let it proceed.

WASHINGTON — Friends of the Earth U.S. released the following statement today on U.S. Sen. Cory Booker’s Farm Bill amendment to guarantee Americans’ right to sue pesticide manufacturers when their products cause harm:

“We applaud Senator Booker for filing an amendment to reverse Monsanto V. Durnell and restore the right of people harmed by pesticides to seek justice in court,” said Jason Davidson, Senior Food and Agriculture Campaigner at Friends of the Earth. “The Supreme Court’s decision effectively let the largest pesticide manufacturers off the hook for any health risks associated with their products. It is shameful that the Republicans of the Agriculture Committee refused to settle this once and for all and ensure pesticide manufacturers can once again be held legally responsible when they fail to warn of the dangers of their chemicals.”
