FOE calls on Senate Democrats to oppose the Surface Transportation Reauthorization Act
Washington– The Senate Environment and Public Works Committee will markup the Surface Transportation Reauthorization Act of 2021 today, introduced by Senators Tom Carper, Shelley Moore Capito, Ben Cardin and Kevin Cramer. The legislation falls short of the goals in President Biden’s American Jobs Plan at a time when bold action from Congress is needed to upgrade and build our nation’s infrastructure.
Nicole Ghio, Friends of the Earth Senior Fossil Fuels Program Manager issued the following statement in response:
The Surface Transportation Reauthorization Act fails to deliver on the bold investments needed to build a sustainable infrastructure, create jobs, and address the climate crisis. Passing this inadequate legislation would shortchange communities and hinder our ability to build a sustainable future. Senate Democrats must reject this bill entirely and develop an infrastructure package that protects our climate and our communities.
