Friends of the Earth responds to Chairman Grijalva letter

Friends of the Earth responds to Chairman Grijalva letter condemning Sen. Manchin’s dirty deal

WASHINGTON House Natural Resources Chair Raúl M. Grijalva sent a letter to House leadership today demanding Sen. Joe Manchin’s dirty “permitting reform” deal be decoupled from must-pass legislation to fund the government. The letter represents significant House opposition against Manchin’s aim to eviscerate bedrock environmental laws and greenlight fossil fuel infrastructure.

Erich Pica, President of Friends of the Earth, issued the following statement:

Chairman Grijalva is an absolute champion for his tireless effort to safeguard the National Environmental Policy Act and protect the rights of communities to provide public input on proposed energy projects. With support from more than 70 members of Congress, this letter demonstrates strong opposition against the deal struck with Sen. Manchin to gut bedrock environmental laws at the expense of frontline communities. We will continue to fight alongside Chairman Grijalva and dozens of other Congressional leaders to stop Manchin’s shameful dirty energy deal.
