Progressives stand fast for just spending levels

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Thanks to demands from progressive members of Congress, Democratic leaders were forced to cancel a vote on the House budget bill slated for later in the week. Progressives are standing firm against proposed spending caps that provide more funding overall to the military than to non-defense funding.

Erich Pica, President of Friends of the Earth, issued the following statement in response:

Progressives must continue to stand firm for a better deal. After nearly a decade of austerity, we fully support demands for more spending on vital priorities. We expect House Democrats to fight for every new dollar they can find in support of housing, public health and environmental protection. This is the start of a fight that ends with reducing military spending and repealing the Trump tax cuts.
