Kayla Mohammed serves as the Federal Policy Advocate for Friends of the Earth, where she supports the organization’s federal advocacy with Congress and the Executive Branch, works closely with the Government and Political Affairs Manager and collaborates cross-departmentally to advance progressive and transformational federal environmental policy. Previously, Kayla worked as a Legislative Aide for Virginia State Senator Ghazala Hashmi in Richmond, Virginia. During her time with Senator Hashmi, Kayla worked on various environmental bills, mainly to help bring environmental justice to Virginia, combat mega-landfills, and help ensure Virginia’s sewer system is updated. Kayla holds a B.S. in Environmental Science and a B.A. in Political Science with a concentration in Politics and Government from Virginia Commonwealth University. Outside of work, Kayla can be found roaming the DC with her dog and trying every new restaurant possible.
