Amanda Hixson is the California Climate-Friendly School Food Program Manager, where she works with the team implementing innovative policy and program initiatives to offer healthy, climate-friendly, plant-based and organic food in schools. Amanda joined FOE with over two decades of food system work ranging from starting her own farm business, creating a county food bank and hub, participating in research and evaluation in Brazil and Cambodia, and designing and directing many non-profit food and farm programs. Amanda has a BA in Environmental Studies, and a master’s degree in education and development Practice. Amanda loves backpacking, because of the simplicity of distilling all of life’s complications into what will fit on her back—plus she loves getting away from civilization and being immersed in the splendor of God’s creation. She also loves family, card games, and yoga.
