Trump Tax Plan for the Wealthy Would Threaten our Planet
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Donald Trump is scheduled to deliver a speech in Springfield, Mo., aimed at bolstering efforts to pass tax reform. The speech is expected to test new language to try to justify the same tax cuts Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) has advocated for years.
Friends of the Earth Senior Political Strategist Ben Schreiber issued the following statement before Trump’s speech:
Slashing taxes on the wealthy would enrich Trump, his family and his billionaire friends while harming working class Americans. Trump’s tax plan would decimate the government’s ability to protect our air and water and deal with the impacts of climate change. This trickle down approach to taxes will increase inequality and will threaten public health and that’s why it is deeply unpopular. Americans want millionaires and billionaires to pay their fair share and not get handouts at the expense of environmental protection and social programs.
