Activists step in to rescue climate from President Obamas failing leadership
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Friends of the Earth and other local climate activists will protest President Obama’s failure of climate leadership on Saturday at 11 a.m. in front of the White House. Analyses show that the climate deal in Paris will put the world on track to 3.5 degrees Celsius of warming, way above the 1.5 degrees Celsius threshold identified by scientists to be a dangerous climate tipping point.
Activists will hold President Obama responsible—as the leader of the world’s largest historic polluter—for failing to commit the United States to doing its fair share of climate action. Recent analyses show that President Obama’s commitment to the Paris agreement represents only 20% of the U.S.’ fair share of climate action, according to its historic responsibility and capacity.
What: “People’s Climate Rescue”
Where: White House, 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.
When: Saturday, Dec. 12, at 11 a.m
Visuals/actions will include: raft, lifejackets, life preservers, paddles, bagpipers
