Stern’s double speak on climate negotiations; words contradict actions
WASHINGTON, D.C. – This morning, U.S. Special Envoy for Climate Change Todd D. Stern delivered a press briefing from the climate negotiations in Paris. Friends of the Earth U.S. President Erich Pica had this to say:
We agree with U.S. Special Envoy for Climate Change Todd Stern’s assertion that the Paris agreement must not be minimalist or represent the least common denominator. But, in practice, by refusing to have binding mitigation or finance targets embedded in the agreement for developed countries, the Obama Administration is pushing for a minimalist approach.
