Build Back Better: A Stronger Democracy

Build Back a Stronger Democracy

Help power change. It takes support from environmental champions like you to build a more healthy and just world.

In the wake of violent attempts to thwart our elections, the destruction of democratic norms during the last four years, and the corporate capture of our political systems, we need to build back a stronger democracy. To build back better, we need to:

Pass HR 1/S 1

Congress must pass, and the President must sign into law, HR 1/S 1, the For the People Act.

This landmark democracy reform bill passed the U.S. House of Representatives in the 116th Congress. It would overturn Citizens United, restore the Voting Rights Act, require states to adopt Independent Redistricting Commissions, and more.

Eliminate the filibuster

The Senate must eliminate the filibuster.

The filibuster allows a single Senator to delay or prevent a vote on legislation, with 60 votes needed to overcome this block. It has become a weapon of partisan gridlock, preventing us from addressing critical issues such as climate change.

Tackle voter suppression

Racist voter suppression tactics must be halted.

In particular, we must put an end to the practice of gerrymandering. Gerrymandering seeks to create unfair political advantages by disenfranchising voters (most notably voters of color) through manipulating political boundaries.
