WASHINGTON—Friends of the Earth President Brent Blackwelder’s statement on the Senate’s failure today to overcome a filibuster of the energy bill follows:

“Big oil and the anti-environment lobby no longer control the House, but they showed today that they can still block progress in the Senate. This situation is not tenable. Our planet is headed toward a global warming tipping point, and if Congress doesn’t act soon, it’s going to be too late. We simply must end our over-reliance on fossil fuels. If the current Senate can’t get the job done, the next Senate must.”
