Statement of Erich Pica, director of domestic campaigns

Washington, DC—As part of their “First 100 Hours” agenda, House Democrats today introduced legislation that would provide billions for clean, renewable energy and energy efficiency by repealing handouts for Big Oil. Below is a statement from Erich Pica, director of domestic campaigns at Friends of the Earth:

“This November voters sent a clear message that Americans want a new direction on energy policy, not the same old Washington proposals to reward Big Oil. The energy bill released today is a significant and welcome departure from the energy policy offered by the previous Congress and the Bush administration.

“This bill represents a down payment on America’s need to reduce our global warming emissions and break our oil addiction. Its support of clean energy solutions will benefit the environment, consumers, and the country. Friends of the Earth looks forward to helping marshal the votes to ensure that this long-overdue legislation passes with overwhelming, bipartisan support.”
