#HoodsOff reveals senators, representatives, local elected officials and police

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Transparency hacktivism group Anonymous exposed hundreds of officials today as card-carrying members of domestic terrorism and hate group, the Ku Klux Klan. It has been reported that among those identified are many state and local officials, mayors, four U.S. Senators and at least one congressman.

Friends of the Earth President Erich Pica issued the following response:

The belief that some lives are more valuable than others has caused immeasurable human and civil rights violations in the United States and around the world.

And while it has long been suspected that some people in positions of power perpetuate intolerance, racism and bigotry, today’s revelations are the closest we’ve come to putting faces to the evil behind systems of social and economic oppression in this country.

It is impossible to achieve a healthy and just world when some of our leaders and public officials believe that some lives are more valuable than others. In order for our nation to progress, we must work together to abolish institutional discrimination. Therefore, Friends of the Earth calls for investigations of all elected and public trust officials identified as KKK members and — should the allegations prove true — for the immediate resignations of these officials. While we believe in the freedoms of speech and assembly as basic constitutional rights; association with a known domestic terrorism and hate group such as the KKK should disqualify them from public office and, particularly, any police force.

Friends of the Earth applauds the work of these activists for exposing the officials poisoning our democracy. We will continue to advance the causes of social justice and improved government transparency, and are pleased that others share our views.
