Keystone XL threatens American heartland

Keystone XL threatens American heartland

WASHINGTON, D.C. – This morning, the State Department announced it issued a Presidential permit to TransCanada authorizing the Keystone XL pipeline and Donald Trump gave a speech at the White House to announce the approval.

Friends of the Earth Senior Political Strategist Ben Schreiber issued the following statement in response to Trump’s remarks:

Approving the Keystone XL pipeline threatens the security of millions of Americans in the heartland by subjecting them to the risk of oil spills. The recent spill in Kalamazoo, Michigan shows just how real that threat is. With this decision, Trump has betrayed the American people to increase Big Oil profits. This is another step in Trump’s unprecedented attack on public health and the environment.

Contrary to what Trump said, the fight over Keystone XL is not over. Friends of the Earth and our activists will use every means available to stop this pipeline.
