As representatives of the environmental movement, we call on Congress to immediately move to re-open the government with a clean funding deal that protects the Dreamers.

In ecosystems, everything is interconnected, and toxic ideas spread as quickly as pollution in our air and water. With their poisonous policies and rhetoric, Trump and the Republican Party continue to deny basic protections for the Dreamers and to use Dreamers as bargaining chips to fund Trump’s destructive border wall. Turning the tide against Trump’s politics of hate and division will only begin when leaders reject policies aimed at dividing families. We stand with Dreamers in our common struggle for justice. One year into the Trump administration, it is clearer than ever that progressives cannot afford to stand apart.

At the core of our environmental fight is the belief we have the responsibility to seek justice for the Earth and those living on it. Denying the Dreamers protection based on racist policies and the politics of division is unacceptable. We stand in solidarity, and as environmentalists, we look to our leaders to hold the line and refuse any compromise that betrays these fundamental values.
