Gabbard’s climate bill: much-needed for climate crisis

Rep. Gabbard’s climate bill provides much-needed, aggressive solutions for climate crisis

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Representative Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI) introduced H.R 3671, the Off Fossil Fuels for a Better Future Act, which articulates an important progressive plan for addressing the climate crisis. The bill would, among other things, transition the U.S. to 100 percent clean renewable energy, forbid the new permitting of pipelines and fossil fuel plants, and invest in communities that are on the frontlines of the climate crisis.

Ben Schreiber, Senior Political Strategist at Friends of the Earth, issued the following response:

As Donald Trump continues to sacrifice the American people for fossil fuel company profits, progressives need to show that there is a better way forward. With the Off Fossil Fuels for a Better Future Act, Representative Gabbard has developed a plan that will allow the American people and our economy to thrive with clean energy.

It is past time to close tax loopholes for dirty energy companies and to slam the door shut on the future of industries that have recklessly polluted our lands, water and air. A swift transition to renewable energy is possible, and paramount to avoid the worst impacts of climate change.

The future of our planet is at stake and aggressive legislation like this is essential to protecting that future. We urge every member of the House to join Representative Gabbard in supporting this important bill.
