House GOP Doubles Down on Highly Partisan, Regressive Farm Bill
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The 2018 Farm Bill passed the House Committee on Agriculture this afternoon.
Lisa Archer, Food and Agriculture Program Director at Friends of the Earth, issued the following statement in response:
It is clear that House Republicans have no interest in passing a bi-partisan Farm Bill that addresses the needs of vulnerable families, struggling farmers and ranchers, and our imperiled soil, air and water resources.
Even worse, the poisonous amendment offered by Rep. King would preempt states’ ability to enact laws that protect public health, the environment, and consumers.
We applaud Democrats for uniting against this shameful effort to gut key organic, conservation and rural development programs while giving more handouts to harmful, polluting agribusinesses. We urge Congress to pass a Farm Bill that supports a sustainable, healthy food system for all Americans.
