Senate Democrats release Clean Cars for America plan

WASHINGTON, D.C. – In a New York Times op-ed, Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and Senate Democrats announced a plan to domestically promote clean, electric vehicles. The plan calls for making clean cars and charging infrastructure affordable and accessible, and creating an American-made manufacturing supply chain.

In response to the plan, Erich Pica, President of Friends of the Earth, issued the following statement:

Sen. Schumer’s plan is a strong first step towards building a sustainable transportation economy for America’s future. By focusing on workers and communities, Senate Democrats’ proposal would help us justly transition away from dirty fossil fuels. This is a winning combination for clean air, the climate and the American people.

To adequately address the climate crisis, electric vehicles cannot only be for the rich. This plan correctly focuses on making clean cars and charging infrastructure affordable and accessible, and creates an American-made manufacturing supply chain that will provide workers with high-quality, union jobs in a sustainable industry.
