Progressives hold fast for American Values

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Senate just voted against a short-term funding package that would have kept the government open into February. The short-term funding package did not include provisions to protect Dreamers from deportation.

In response to the vote, Erich Pica, President of Friends of the Earth, issued the following statement:

Congress must immediately move to re-open the government with a funding deal that protects Dreamers. Trump’s Republican Shutdown is the first time in history where a party that controls the House, Senate and White House has failed to keep the government open. We have a fundamental responsibility to stand with Dreamers in our common struggle for justice.

No matter the consequences, Friends of the Earth and our members will fight the hate, injustice and corruption of Trump and the GOP. We will pressure Democrats to stand in unity with Dreamers, and will hold them accountable if they enable Trump’s hate and division.
