Wyden Places Hold on Acting Interior Solicitor Daniel Jorjani Nomination

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Donald Trump’s nominee to be the next top lawyer at the Department of the Interior was placed on hold by Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) following revelations that he may have lied to lawmakers about his role in FOIA requests to the agency.

In response, Nicole Ghio, senior fossil fuel program manager at Friends of the Earth, issued the following statement:

Thank you to Senator Wyden for placing a hold on Daniel Jorjani’s nomination for the Department of Interior’s Solicitor General. Opposing a nominee who possibly committed perjury should not be controversial. Jorjani misled the committee about his role in reviewing and withholding documents from the public under FOIA. Jorjani’s actions are just the latest in a full-scale effort at the DOI to coverup the actions of the Department’s top officials. Unfortunately, it comes as no surprise that DOI’s acting top lawyer possibly broke the law. We call on all senators to take their oversight responsibilities seriously by joining Wyden’s call for a DOJ investigation into Jorjani’s actions.
