Karen Orenstein is Director of the Climate and Energy Program at Friends of the Earth U.S. She previously oversaw the sustainable finance program, which covers international energy financing by the U.S. and China, as well as Wall Street backing of the climate crisis. Karen’s background is in international climate finance, with expertise on the United Nations Green Climate Fund. Earlier in her career, Karen coordinated Washington work at the East Timor and Indonesia Action Network, to support justice and human rights protections for the peoples of Timor Leste, West Papua, and Indonesia. She also volunteered with Maasai rights organizations and lived in Tanzania. Karen is mom to one little boy and three small-to-average sized cats, and aspires to one day have a full menagerie of companion animals.
