GE SalmonFriends of the Earth has been working hard to prevent the approval by the FDA of AquaBounty’s genetically engineered salmon.  If approved, it would be the first genetically engineered animal to be approved for human consumption. More than 7800 Friends of the Earth activists have sent comments to the FDA.  Public comments are now closed.  We’ll update you soon on any news we get about this issue.

DEAD IN THE WATER

by gloriana casey

The frankenfish lay on the plate.

Dead? It seemed to quiver!

Then up it sat, in mournful voice,

“Going to the river.”

Genetic change now gave it legs,

then at the river’s edge,

“But Wait,” it said, “A bigger prize,

BIG WATER is my pledge!”

“I’ll leap onto Atlantic there,

compromise the ocean!”

This frankenfish, this cruel idea,

a corporation notion.

Now, Nature in a million years

a perfect fish did make.

But Aquabounty sees just cash!

This is a big mistake!

Ha, ha, you laugh, this writer’s crazed,

such imagination!

But SCIENCE facts must stick to you,

or gone’s our Ocean nation!

So you may laugh at what I wrote,

but please consider this–

to tamper with a fish design

will make the ZOMBIE fish!
