Organic Procurement for K-12 Schools

Serving organic food in schools is a powerful way to support student health and reduce exposure to toxic pesticides. Organic farming builds healthy soil, protects pollinators, mitigates climate change, and safeguards the ecosystems that sustain life. By purchasing organic, schools can also help support farmers’ livelihoods and long-term economic resilience.

To help schools purchase and serve more organic food, Friends of the Earth has developed a range of practical resources for school nutrition leaders. From understanding organic farming practices and identifying vendors to engaging students and sourcing affordable organic produce through DoD Fresh, these tools are designed to make serving organic food achievable, affordable, and exciting.

Friends of the Earth also offers an Organic School Food Roadmap to help schools gradually increase organic purchasing. For more information or school-specific assistance, please reach out to our team at [email protected]
